Spherical Roller Bearing

The spherical roller bearing has double-row rollers, a common spherical raceway on the outer ring, and two raceways on the inner ring that are tilted at an angle relative to the bearing axis. This ingenious structure enables it to have self-aligning performance, so it is not easily affected by the angle error between the shaft and the bearing box seat or the shaft bending, and is suitable for occasions where the angle error is caused by installation error or shaft deflection. In addition to being able to withstand radial loads, the bearing can also withstand bidirectional axial loads.

Spherical Roller Bearings Features

1.Automatic self-aligning performance‌: The outer ring raceway of the spherical roller bearing is spherical, with good self-aligning performance, which can compensate for coaxiality errors and achieve automatic self-alignment.

‌2.Load bearing capacity‌: This type of bearing can withstand large radial and axial loads, and is particularly suitable for working under heavy loads or vibration loads, and has good impact resistance.

‌3.Structural features‌: The rollers and raceways of spherical roller bearings have a high degree of fit, severe relative sliding, and large friction, so the allowable operating speed is low.

FAQ

Q1: What's the difference between spherical roller bearings and self-aligning ball bearings?

A: Spherical roller bearings use barrel-shaped rollers, delivering 3-5x higher load capacity for heavy impact loads. Self-aligning ball bearings use balls, offering higher speed capability for light/medium loads. Both provide similar misalignment angles (2°-3°), but roller bearings have longer life and greater rigidity.

Q2: Which is better, CA-type or CC-type cage?

A: Neither is universally better—it depends on application. CA-type brass cages are shock-resistant and high-temperature capable, ideal for crushers and steel equipment. CC-type steel cages are lightweight and high-speed, perfect for motors and gearboxes. CA costs 20-30% more than CC.

Q3: How do you mount tapered bore bearings?

A: Tapered bore bearings (K-type) require H adapter sleeves or AH withdrawal sleeves. Installation: 1) Slide sleeve onto shaft; 2) Mount bearing on sleeve; 3) Tighten locknut; 4) Expand bearing inner ring with taper for interference fit. No shaft shoulder needed, enabling easy removal.

Q4: Why must vibrating screen bearings use C4 clearance?

A: Vibrating screens generate alternating impact loads and high-frequency micro-movements. Standard clearance (C0/C3) causes raceway clamping and premature fatigue. C4 clearance (0.02-0.04mm larger than C3) provides extra roller movement space to absorb shock energy, extending life by 3-5x.

Q5: What's the typical service life of spherical roller bearings?

A: Under rated conditions (clean lubrication, no shock):
  • Standard grade: 30,000-50,000 hours
  • SKF Explorer/FAG X-life: 80,000-120,000 hours
  • Vibrating applications: 15,000-25,000 hours (requires C4 clearance)
  • Steel converters: 50,000-80,000 hours (requires regular maintenance)
